Day 29 - La Faba to Fonfria

Day 29 - Tuesday, 20th May, 2014 - 17.4 km

[The border stone of Galicia]

[Nearing O'Cebeiro - getting colder]

[.... and colder]

Today started very cold.  We could hear the rain falling during the night and as we left La Faba the clouds below us were being swept by the wind up the valley to the saddle between the two hills where we were heading to O'Cebreiro.  On the way up we passed the boundary to the last region of Spain - Galicia; it's sort of Spain's equivalent to Devon and Cornwall, prone to be wet and windy at anytime during the year.  The village of O'Cebreiro itself seemed to be permanently in cloud.  We were all wearing shorts, but we needed all the warm clothes we could muster including gloves because as we neared the top we noticed that there was signs of freshly fallen snow on the bracken off the main track.

O'Cebreiro itself was clear after we arrived and although rain threatened to fall, we seemed lucky not to have to contend with being wet as well.

[Yet another village called Hospital!]

We stopped on our way down to Fonfria, our destination, at 'Alto de Poio' and sat at table with two ladies, who were on the first day of a fact finding mission to see whether their idea of having a women's group walking the Camino, with focus group discussions and Yoga sessions after the days walking would be feasible!  As nice as they were, and this was their first day, they seemed to lack a certain amount of realism concerning life on the Camino.  We joked amongst ourselves afterwards about the possibilities of doing Yoga from your top bunk.  Eila and I just started making Stork happy beak knocking noises, which is all we felt like doing from the tops of our bunks!  I think that if they had joined us at the Albergue, Michael would have 'topped' himself!

We got to our Albergue with ease, our fitness becoming more obvious.  After sorting out bunk beds and trying to move away from suspect snorers (ie men of my age and older!), we settled down and got sorted out.  The weather tomorrow looks more ominous, but that's another day.

Buen Camino.
